Spring Cleaning [Adventure]

[Adventure 128]

It felt strange crossing the border from Connecticut to Massachusetts, then Massachusetts to Vermont and Vermont to New Hampshire. We hadn't been out of the state for months, but finally we were on our way to Camp Calumet, if just for a couple days.

We stopped at Wicked Fresh Craft Burgers to partake of their glorious gluten free burgers and fries, including a variety of tasty sauces. After picking up our food, I drove quickly to camp and checked into our rooms. We chatted with a couple people, got settled into our rooms, delivered a sign, and then finally sat down for a delicious meal.

Austen decided we needed to begin watching Wandavision, so we spent the evening watching and munching popcorn.

The next morning we procured breakfast and then got to work on our assigned tasks. My husband joined a trail clearing crew and Austen, Skye, and I got to work on the Family Camp restrooms. We began inside, putting a couple coats of polyurethane on any uncoated wood surfaces.

After lunch we started painting the outside of the building and got two of the four sides of the building painted - well, painted as high as we could reach!

My favorite moment of that day happened toward the end of our work hours. The three of us were finishing up painting one side of the building, and were sitting on the ground working on the lower part of the siding. Music was playing on Austen's phone. "Beautiful Day" by Jamie Grace came on and the three of us, absolutely exhausted and in pain from a full day's work, started singing along. The music and the singing seemed to revive us.

After cleaning up, we headed back to our rooms to clean ourselves up and get ready for dinner. As we ate our delicious meal out on the deck, we watched the birds flit from trees to bird feeder. A "discussion" took place between my husband and our youngest child about the color and species of a particular bird. Somehow the exchange devolved into Jim asking "Where?" and Skye responding "Blue!" over and over to the point of pure comedy. A bit of online research later, it was discovered that the bird is question was not a chickadee, but a nuthatch which was described on the bird identification website as greyish blue.

We then retired to our room to once again watch some Wandavision.

The next morning we dragged our tired and sore bodies out of bed to obtain breakfast and then headed back to work. Jim went to split wood while Austen, Skye, and I returned to the FC Bathroom to finish painting what we could. We somehow managed to paint the rest of the building - up to where we could reach, anyway. We cleaned the paint brushes as best as we could with freezing cold water and a bucket, cleaned up, and headed back to our room to clean ourselves up and finish bringing our stuff to our van.

Soon we were on our way home, with one not so quick stop along the way. But that's an adventure for another post!
