Identifying [Adventure]

[Adventure 103]

There are things that fell by the wayside due to quarantine and the need to keep the chronically ill people in my family safe.

One of those things was getting our eighteen year old a state ID. They are reluctant to get their driver's license, so do not have one of those and need a state ID. We were about to begin the process of name change and ID procurement when covid hit. We haven't given it a second thought until just the other day.

I took Austen to get their covid-19 vaccination. They set up an account through VAMS and scheduled an appointment. They had the appointment confirmation and their insurance card upon arriving for the vaccine. Then they were asked for another form of ID.

We didn't have any with us, nor do they have a school ID or any other form of identification. And they don't carry their birth certificate with them.

So we called home. Skye looked through the safe for ten minutes and didn't find anything useful. We facetimed and still nothing. I called my husband, who assured me it was in the safe. Facetiming Skye again, they eventually found Austen's passport. Photo, name, and birthdate, the wonderful person at the vaccination clinic accepted it as proper ID and they received their one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

While searching for Austen's proof of identification, Skye was also babysitting two children, who were in the next room painting. Things could have gone very differently for both Austen and Skye, but in the end, things worked out just fine for both of them.
