Fake ID [ Adventure]

[Adventure 269]

Not too long ago my sixteen year old yelled up the stairs, "Onyx ... come downstairs. Mama needs to take your picture for your fake ID."

Quality parenting is happening up in here.

You see, we had less than twenty-four hours until Onyx and Austen were heading to Austen's girlfriend Sophia's house for a sleepover before their trip to New York City (with Sophia's mom) to see a show on Broadway when we were informed via email that our over 18 child needed a government ID as well as their vaccination card to get into the theater and the under 18 year old needed a school ID.

Well hek.

Austen doesn't have an ID because we were all set to get them one when covid hit and things shut down. By the time they opened, we were incredibly limited as to where we go and what we do because I don't have much of an immune system and we don't want to risk getting any of us sick.

So we grabbed Austen's expired passport (they said a passport was ok - they didn't say it needed to be current) and they'll use that. As backup, they'll also bring a school ID.

Onyx will bring a brand new school ID, even though they have never been to school. Nor has Austen for that matter. I created their school IDs myself, as their school administrator. I even laminated them to make them more official looking. And then Onyx and Austen requested stopping at the store and picking up lanyards for them.

It's funny, the adventures we go on as homeschoolers.

School ID required? No problem. We'll make our own!

In the process of making the ID, I realized that Onyx's ticket is in Onyx's name - not their legal name. However, their vaccination card is in their legal name. We found a way to deal with this issue as well - their name on the front, legal name on the back.

My husband took Onyx's school photo as I was searching for a photo of Austen to use for their ID. It wouldn't be authentic to use a current photo with their current hairdo, as Austen's ID was for the 2019-2020 school year. They even roughed their ID up a bit for effect.

They had a wonderful time at the show.
