[Adventures] in Keeping them Safe

[Adventure 319]

We don't share photos, names, or identifying information about our New Start family to help protect them.

As much as we want to share the children's radiant faces as they explored the playground, climbed, sped down the slides, and swung as high as didn't give their mother a heart attack, we couldn't. As much as we want to share their amazing stories and all the wonderful things they and their family still in Afghanistan have done and are doing, we cannot.

We need to keep them safe.

As much as we'd love to post photo ops of the family in their new home, the family exploring their neighborhood, the family getting to know their neighbors, we won't.

What we will do is listen when they tell us proudly of the things they've accomplished and the impossible, horrific things they've been through. We'll take their concerns of safety for themselves and their family back in Afghanistan seriously and share only what they feel comfortable with. We'll celebrate the relief and hope they feel and make room for their fears and frustrations.

Instead of sharing their life through stories of the past and photos old and new, we share our stories of our experiences of them now, photos of the places we go with them, photos of small hands doing big things.
