[moments] of realization

[moment 35]

It was a lot of information to take in in the time allotted. Questions were in great supply. What does IRIS do? The Co-Sponsor group? What are the family's responsibilities? How do they stay safe, obey the laws, gain employment, acclimate to this new culture? What are the steps they need to take to work toward self-sufficiency and eventually toward citizenship?

I have a feeling there were many moments of realization for the evacuee family throughout the two days of training...realization of how much work is ahead of them, but also how much support they will receive from our group.

New Start Ministry CT has resettled two refugee families in the past several years, but this time it's different. Our family is a "humanitarian parolee" family, so the resettlement rules and the process is different. And the rules and the process are ever-changing as the government works out what exactly to do with this huge influx of Afghan evacuees.

As our current family makes decisions about the direction their lives are going, our resettlement group may have some moments of realization of their own. Things don't always go as we envision them. Each family is different and makes different choices. And we are here to support them along their journey.
