Thrift Store Thursday

Today I bring you a blog post full of the weird, the wonderful, and the questionable things I find at the thrift store. Some of these things currently reside in my house. Others, I was happy to leave right where they were.

Well, that got your attention, didn't it? If you don't know what this is, it's a hookah, which is used to smoke tobacco...among other things. Immediately after I snapped this photo, another shopper asked me what it was and seemed slightly concerned when I explained how it works. And why do I know how it works?  Because I'm a homeschooling mom who was asked questions concerning a hookah during the viewing of a movie, and did some research in order to be able to provide an adequate explanation. Don't worry - I wasn't letting my children watch inappropriate movies - you may recognize this from a popular children's movie:

That's right, the Caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland smokes a hookah.

Next up - this gorgeous apron I bought for Haley as part of her Christmas gift. She loves it and so do I.

And then there's the most totally tubular game from 1987: TUBA*RUBA - The Body Action Game. It consists of plastic tubing, a marble, and things that attach the tubing to itself and to you. The object is to get the marble from the entry point to the receptacle at the opposite end of the tube through bodily gyrations.

Yes, this is real. I own it. I mean, how can you resist such a spectacular game?

And you know what's even more exciting than finding this treasure?

Finding the commercial for this most excellent of passtimes!!!

And last, for today, is a most comfortable of finds: a big cozy purple wool sweater from Ireland, just for me, for the low, low price of $1.99. Did I mention it's purple???

Stay tuned for the next installment of Thrift Store Thursday!

And please tell me, what's your favorite thrift store find?

Amanda

  1. I currently have a sweater buying obsession on half price wednesdays. Maybe someday I'll pluck up the courage to post the Katwise style sweaters I've made. I also love to look at the furniture and I keep an eye out for antique cast iron!
