[reason 241] new starts

A bedroom is set up with four twin beds, and another with a queen size bed. The bedrooms may be a little tight, but they will do until a bigger apartment is found.

The living room is cozy, the kitchen is set up with the essentials, and the dining table awaits a family of six to start making memories in their new home ... in their new city ... in their new country.

The Afghan refugee family arrives today to their new home, being welcomed by a few members of New Start Ministry CT, a refugee resettlement ministry.  Over the next days and weeks, mounds of paperwork will be filled out, children will start school, adults will begin learning English, and volunteers will work with the family to help them get acclimated to American culture and their new surroundings, to everything from grocery shopping to getting jobs.

May we …

Look with love on all those seeking refuge.
Open our hands to care for neighbors who are hungry and without shelter.
Help to provide protection and hope for families separated from each other.
Have hearts full of generosity and welcome for those who suffer fear and isolation.
Celebrate the many gifts refugees and immigrants bring to our communities.
Embrace as our siblings refugees who long for home.
Walk with those who flee poverty, persecution, war and violence as they make a new start.
