We were apart for a week and a half, which, when you consider the amount of time we've spent apart during our twenty-seven years of marriage, is a long time. I looked forward to our phone calls, which took place at least three times a day. Even on the days I was utterly exhausted or in the middle of mopping up yet more water, or completely soaked and in need of a change of clothes and something hot to drink, I stopped what I was doing (or woke up from an unplanned nap) to converse with my husband. 

I love that twenty-seven years later, we both continue to look forward to seeing each other and sleeping next to each other and just being us.
