[Nevertheless] We're Here

Things didn't go as planned from the beginning. My husband got a new job and had yet to receive paid time off, so our eighteen day vacation turned into eight days of unpaid vacation. Upon arriving at camp and setting up our campsite, we discovered we were missing tent poles and had to purchase a new one.

Campsite set up, beach fun experienced, delicious dinner at the Yankee Smokehouse with Gramma and Papa, and even a visit from Haley, who had already been at Camp for a week in Leadership and Service, we melted into our beds, ready for a good night's sleep.

Breakfast and worship went smoothly the next morning, but lunch on the beach was punctuated by booms of thunder in the distance. As the storm grew closer, we headed back to our campsite to pack up last minute items before driving to the parking out where we were to await cabin and tent assignments for our campers. We dove for the van as the first downpour deluged camp.

The rain didn't faze the indomitable Knute as he went from vehicle to vehicle greeting campers and parents alike. The storm seemed to pass for the most part by the time we were lugging suitcase and plastic drawers to tent and cabin to get our two campers settled in for their camp adventures.

There was a bit of a hiccup with Alia's medical forms, but hopefully that will be remedied by a quick message to her pain team doctors.

Once we dropped childen off for Camp, we headed to the grocery store for more forgotten items. A power strip, dishwashing liquid, and espresso topping the list.

Somehow my husband, Jim, built a fire in the rain and grilled two delicious steaks. The four of us - Jim, myself, our eighteen year old daughter Zephyr, and her boyfriend, Fynn - enjoyed our dinner in the relative dryness and comfort of our big new tent.

The rain finally gave way for long enough for us to attend the traditional Sunday evening campfire, full of the camp songs we love. The fire wasn't too firey, as the fire builder was also the leader of the campfire and the wood was wet, but with a little help from Jim, it was resurrected to quite a marshmallow-roasting inferno in time for making s'mores.

Things didn't go as planned, nevertheless, we're here and we're having a wonderful time!
