[a moment] on wheels

[moment 26]

They greeted each other and almost immediately wheeled off to see the belugas.

The two teens are in wheelchairs for different medical reasons, but they seem to enjoy having a friend with whom they can not feel so "different." Not that they mind being different - or aren't already different from their peers in so many ways.

Onyx is newish to wheelchair use. They use my wheelchair every now and then when we're out and about and they're having hip issues, but with their new dysautonomia diagnosis and increasing issues with standing and walking for more than a few minutes, using a wheelchair may become more common for them. This was their first major outing since their diagnosis, and I'm thankful it could be with a good friend who also happens to use a wheelchair.

The moment they took off together, I knew it was going to be a good afternoon, and an affirming one for Onyx that life can be just as fun on wheels.
