[reason 2] having someone to lean on

It was an emotional day for more than one of us. Emotions associated with it being New Year's Eve combined the anniversary of a major (and sad) life event, and the stresses of life in general were weighing on several of us.

As we were sitting at the table, I glanced over and saw these three physically and emotionally leaning on each other. Throughout the night, I witnessed more of this show of love and support amongst these three. It was incredibly heartwarming to see these human beings being vulnerable, loving, caring, and compassionate ... asking what was needed and what was ok and not ok and how they could best be supportive.

They didn't try to fix any particular situation. They instead validated feelings, expressed their emotions, talked through things, or sat in supportive silence. They offered and sought consent for hugs and snuggles. They retreated to quiet spaces when needed. They checked in with each other to make sure everyone was receiving what they needed, while respecting their own limits and boundaries.

Having someone to lean on makes a mountain of difference in life.
