[new] celebration

We've never had this celebration before.

It's been one year since Z joined our family. One year since they officially became our "child." One person that deserves a celebration.

Z...I love you. YOU. You, in whatever form you feel is you. Even if it changes. Even when it changes, because we are all changing, sometimes in imperceptible ways, sometimes in huge ways, most of the time somewhere in the middle.

I love the way you care for other people. I love the patience you have as you learn to navigate our household full of neurodiversity. I love the way you not only listen to people, but make sure you hear and understand them properly - and make sure you are heard and understood as you mean to be. I love your sense of humor, your intelligence, your vulnerability, your courage, and how you strive to overcome the programming of your past to grow into your true self. (Have patience with yourself and the process.) The way you seek out merchants (did I mention your sense of humor?). I love the way you forget that if you mention something once that your mother feels slightly amusing, then it comes to fruition in some way, shape, or form. (Frosting, you say?)

I love YOU. You. I believe you ... today, tomorrow, a week from a month from last Tuesday. I love you. So much. Because I do. Because you're you, and you're so worthy of love and care and of all the good things this world has to offer.

Happy Adoption Day!!!
