[a moment] until fourteen

[moment 47]

At the time of publication of this blog at midnight on February 16, 2022, my youngest child is moments away from being fourteen years old, as they were born shortly after midnight. At the time of writing this, I'm fairly confident that they will still be awake when this post goes live.

Onyx has always been their own unique person, and that didn't change this year.

This year hasn't been a walk in the park, but they've been incredibly resilient. They managed not to go to the ER too often for dislocations, but landed themself there, and then in cardiology, emerging with a dysautonomia diagnosis.

They finished the FIT Teens study.  They changed their name and pronouns a couple times. And their hair color.

They spent two weeks at Resident Camp at Camp Calumet. They went to a Renaissance Faire, met up with friends at museums, the aquarium, and the science center. They acted in a haunted house. They went to the beach, to Spring Cleaning Weekend at Camp Calumet, made potions and earrings and sold them at Pride, set up a giant tag sale at church (and sold potions there, too!), and ventured to various theatrical performances including Hadestown and the Nutcracker. They spent countless hours hanging out with friends online...especially friends from Texas.

They helped resettle an Afghan evacuee family. They auditioned for and got a part in a Mainstage production.

Despite the fact that we continue to live in a covid-19 world, Onyx is doing their best to live their life to the fullest.

Happy 14, Onyx!
