[Adventures] in Keeping Busy During a Pandemic
[Adventure 26]
Complaints of boredom have splattered my social media lately. Increasingly, friends and family and complete strangers are complaining of the sheer monotony of quarantine life.
While I understand how it can be possible to be bored when many activities that we'd normally be doing are unavailable at this point in time, I don't think it's necessary to be bored and know there are many things that can be done about it.
I don't find much time in my life to be bored. There are books to read, movies to watch, a house to clean and organize (and reorganize), home improvements to be made, art to be created, new recipes to try, people to help, volunteer opportunities galore ... and there's rarely a shortage of laundry to be done or dishes to be washed.
And there are plenty of other things to be done. There are songs for church to learn on the ukulele; there are trips to church to (safely) record music for worship; there are images to create for worship videos and church social media; and there is always a worship video to be edited come Friday or Saturday. And there are ideas to flesh out - like a contact-free book sale and a virtual paint night.
There are new-to-us hiking trails and rails-to-trails to be discovered.
There is languishing in bed to be savored, naps to be taken, and cuddling to be done. There have been unlimited Pajama Days, which may be the most underappreciated and underrated thing that happened during this pandemic.
Let's not forget about family game nights, Dungeons and Dragons, and the online games my children want to me to learn that I still haven't gotten around to learning (because I'm scared!).
And the celebrations! We've gotten to celebrate birthdays, an election, anniversaries, an Inauguration, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, First Christmas (the day after Thanksgiving), St. Nicholas Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, We Really Want Burgers and Ice Cream and Junk Food Day (there have been a few of those), and a bunch of things I'm sure I forgot. Heck, we make up celebrations just to have an excuse to order out and eat ice cream!
Between volunteering, creating, helping, playing, celebrating, cuddling, reading, exploring, relaxing, learning, and selecting which pajamas to change into, there isn't much time for boredom. New adventures await, if you know how to seek them!
Great reaad thanks
