21 Eggs and a Lizard [Adventure]
[Adventure 96]
My family is not normal.
Every Easter we have an Easter egg hunt in my parents' backyard. We use plastic eggs, because if we lose an egg or two, there's no chance of happening on a rancid egg in the days or weeks to come. This year we had twenty-one eggs to hide. And a lizard.
It wasn't a live lizard. For that matter, it wasn't a dead lizard. It was a plastic lizard that our thirteen year old found somewhere in Gramma and Papa's house and decided needed to be a part of the hunt this year.
First, my husband, Austen, and I hid the eggs - and the lizard - for the two youngest children to find. Then the two youngest (and Austen) hid the eggs and the lizard for the grown-ups to find. The children are either better hiders or the adults are worse finders ... or a combination of the two ... because it took the adults at least twice the time it took the children to find the eggs and there were twice as many of us.
And, as always seems to happen, there is one egg unaccounted for, that the adults couldn't find and the children couldn't remember where it's hidden. In the weeks or months to come, every time we go to Gramma and Papa's house, I'm sure a child or two will continue the search for it.
