[reason 278] hard days

Some days last for days.

The three of us headed to a funeral first thing in the morning to support a family member of the deceased, and in hopes of avoiding drama with other family members who are not supportive of the existence of the individual who needed to attend the funeral.

Then we headed out to procure coffee and just sit for a while before a quick drive to obtain three rotisserie chickens. Next we were off to the place of employment of one of us to pick up their mobility device, which they'd accidentally left there. Finally, we were home, but just for a short time.

At home, I took the meat off the chickens and started making broth out of the carcasses. After an accidental nap, I awoke the other two, who had also fallen asleep, and we were off to a doctor appointment. Following the appointment, we went to the yarn factory for some ... well...whatever meal you eat at 3:45PM. Our plan to go home and rest following all this activity was replaced with the need to head to the Emergency Department to deal with health issues of one of us.

After an agonizing wait, pain medication and muscle relaxants took the edge off the pain and we were able to head home and help the patient into their own bed.

It was the best of days in many senses, and the worst of days in others. We laughed, we cried, and we yearned to be able to help and support and take away the pain. We celebrated and we mourned. We somehow made it through that day, exhausted as we were, knowing that the love and care we shared were genuine and greatly appreciated.

It is my hope that, at the end of this day - and all days to come - these two human beings know how blessed I feel to have them in my life ... and that they don't have to thank me dozens of times for basic human decency and for being a mom. Their mom
