[Seek] Peace In Your Pajamas
Things are a bit different these days. A lot different. The places we usually go - work, the movies, church, school, restaurants - are places to which many of us are no longer going. The things we do - sports, theater rehearsals, getting together with friends - are off limits.
It can be frustrating. Or, I should say, we can choose to be frustrated. We could also choose to find new ways to do things and employ patience, grace, and a sense of humor.
My children seem to be adapting well. They are chatting online with friends while gaming or watching movies with them from the comfort of their own houses. They go on hikes with us, play games with each other, practice music and theater lines together, and binge watch videos and tv shows. They create art. They make plans for the Summer. And they do most of this in their pajamas.
My husband, working in the manufacturing/construction industry, continues to work. I try not to be anxious about him being among other people who are possibly carrying covid-19. We hike. We continue to binge watch Survivor.
The place we usually spend around a third of our time, Epoch Arts, has cancelled Spring classes and Co-op. We wait to hear what is or is not happening with the Mainstage production. We miss our friends there. A lot. But we keep in touch the best we can and look forward to the time when we can get together with them again.
Our church is basically closed down as well. Worship looks different, but continues to connect us. We can watch a worship video with music played and sung by teens, readings read by members of our congregation, and gospel and message from our pastor. We get to participate in a livestream of prayers and intercessions for our congregation, community, and the world. And we get to do all of this in our pajamas!
So here we are, living the dream. Really! How many times have you said something to the effect of, "I wish I could just spend all day at home in my pj's?" Today is the day! Now is the time. This is a prime opportunity to do all the things! That pile of books you've been wanting to read? That project you've wanted to start? The epic pillow and blanket fort you've wanted to build? That long, luxurious bath you've been craving? That thing you wanted to cook? That thing you wanted to learn? Now you have time to do all those things! In your pajamas!
Explore the world on your own or with your children through the countless virtual tours available online of anything from historical sites and museums to ancient ruins; view livestreams of concerts from artists' porches and living rooms, or penguins and other animals at aquariums and zoos and nature preserves around the world; take advantage of all the free online learning opportunities now being offered! All in your pajamas!
